apemaster

Installation of DL5 on apemaster from CD

Automatic installation via network is initiated when booting from DL5 installation CD. The installation procedure requires minimal manual intervention, because there is no DHCP server for the IFH hosts in subnet 40. If you're asked to enter the machine's IP address. The correct answers are:
	apemaster0: 141.34.40.40
	apemaster1: 141.34.40.51
	apemaster2: 141.34.40.52
	apemaster3: 141.34.40.53
The gateway IP should be: 141.34.40.1 If you get the "Automatic partitioning" screen, press the Enter key to select the Automatic option. Please note that soon after the message
       ifh_bootstrap: finally: a full sue.update ...
is displayed, there will be no more screen activity for about 20 minutes. Don't panic! It's the apeboot, apeshare, zroot, kroot and SGE amsync features that are installed on the disk and this takes a while (apeboot contains a couple of RedHat linux distributions, among other stuff). The installation is complete when the X11 login screen is displayed. Use ssh to login as root from *another* apemaster host and set the root password using the command:
	/usr/bin/passwd
Login as root on the local screen and check that the contents of /etc/fstab is correct. The reference information is on the file /afs/ifh.de/group/ape/amille/apemaster_upgrade/fstabs Execute the command:
	scp -r apemasterX:/root/.ssh /root
where apemasterX is another apemaster system that is up and running. If the installation was done on a new machine (because the old one broke down) the ethernet address of the primary network interface needs to be updated in the VAMOS database. This address can be obtained by running the command "ifconfig eth0" command on the respective machine and looking at the HWaddr field in the output. Send this information (plus hostname) to uco@ifh.de.
